Stolen Toyota Prado recovered in Emdeni after suspicious driving incident

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) recovered a stolen vehicle after officers spotted it travelling against traffic during a crime prevention patrol.

A stolen Toyota Prado was recovered in Emdeni after JMPD officers noticed suspicious driving behaviour during a routine patrol.

According to JMPD, Tactical Response Unit (TRU) officers were conducting crime prevention patrols along Impala Road when they observed a white Toyota Prado travelling slowly against oncoming traffic on Emdeni Link Road.

The vehicle veered off the road, mounted the pavement and came to a stop. Officers approached cautiously and found it abandoned, with no occupants inside. The engine was still running and the vehicle was in drive mode.

Initial checks using the displayed registration number yielded no results.

However, further investigation using the vehicle identification number confirmed the correct registration details.

A tracking company later verified that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Krugersdorp.

The vehicle was recovered and booked into the pound in Lenasia for further investigation.

JMPD said the recovery forms part of ongoing efforts to combat vehicle-related crime in the area.
