Pikitup confirms festive season waste collection schedule in Johannesburg

Johannesburg residents can expect uninterrupted waste collection services throughout the festive season, with Pikitup confirming only one public holiday shutdown on Christmas Day.

Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, has confirmed that refuse collection and related services will continue largely uninterrupted during the December holiday period.

The only day on which services will not operate is Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25. All other scheduled services will run as normal, including on New Year’s Day.

Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said the entity is prepared to manage increased volumes of waste typically generated during the festive season.

He encouraged residents who expect to produce excess waste to make use of Pikitup’s integrated waste management facilities to ensure safe, legal and responsible disposal.

“These facilities are available to assist residents during the busy festive period,” Mkhwanazi said.

A full list of integrated waste management facilities, including their addresses, operating hours and the types of waste accepted, is available on the Pikitup website.
