Diekloopf Clinic receives solar panels

"The solar panels are already working and the security to keep them safe has also been installed.”

Premier Panyaza Lessufi led the Gauteng Provincial Government during the handover for the installation of solar panels at Diekloopf Clinic on February 16.

This was the first installation of many solar panels to be rolled to over 32 health facilities in the province as part of the Gauteng Energy Response plan to mitigate service delivery interruptions experienced during load shedding.

The acting facility manager of Diepkloof Clinic, Thuli Mokoena, said the solar panels will be of great assistance to the clinic since they were using a generator as their backup system.

“It was not easy trying to juggle our everyday work while using a generator because at times we would run out of diesel while waiting for orders, so the solar panels will help us in times of load shedding at the clinic since we will not experience any and we will be able to store our vaccines in the clinic during load shedding than having to take them elsewhere,” Mokoena said.

She added that they are very excited and grateful as a clinic since their work will be easier.

“Residents should also note that we will no longer have load shedding in the clinic and even when they come to collect their results from the computer room we will be able to check for them without a challenge.

The Gauteng Provincial Government will continue to install solar panels at health facilities in the province to address energy challenges across the province.
