Locals aged 50 and above invited to event

Life After 50 Original Makoya Social Club is inviting residents from the age of 50 upwards to join them as they assist each other to navigate life as adults.

Members support each other as they voice out difficulties they face as parents and head of households during their meeting sessions.

Life After 50 Original Makoya Social Club, Alice Maphindoms Molebatsi, is inviting residents to join them.

The president of the club, Alice Maphindoms Molebatsi said they create a safe space for matured people to unpack issues they might be dealing with in silence since their problems can only be understood by other members of their age group.

”As we grow and mature, there are a lot of challenges that one face and most people are not free to talk about given the judgement that they might face.

“Our club helps us deal with the realities of our lives as we seek advice from one another in the comfort of our own spaces while we enjoy the advantages that come with being matured,” Molebatsi said.

She added that during the three years that the club has been actively running, there are various challenges that they have noted and seen that matured people face.

”We have a lot of hidden skeletons in our closets and the load we take in as we try to raise and take care of our families is a lot.

“The least we can do is reduce the stress so that we can at least die happy when the time comes.

“We believe that a happy parent or guardian means a happy home because when you take care of yourself you’ll be able to take good care of those around you regardless of how tough it might be.”

Life After 50 Real Makoya Social Club members advocate for mental health among adults and refreshing over good conversations.

“Our year plan for this year includes recruiting more members to come and be a part of us as well as planning ahead for our upcoming celebrations. Members who would like to be a part of us can contact me on 084 427 2957.”
