SADAG achieves outreach programme for thousands of learners

“From early mornings travelling to schools speaking to hundreds of learners class-by-class, as well as hosting workshops with teachers at every school."

SADAG’s School Outreach Program (ScOut) has reached over 80 000 learners and engaged with over 1 500 teachers across 72 schools in Gauteng in six months.

SADAG’s Jane Mashava said hopefully they have fostered a supportive environment for mental health discussions during the programme, which forms part of SADAG’s 30-year commitment to mental health education.

The initiative equips learners and teachers with knowledge and resources.

“SADAG has an internal video from our ScOuts team showing what they have done on the ground visiting all these schools in townships from around the province.

“From early mornings travelling to schools speaking to hundreds of learners class-by-class, as well as hosting workshops with teachers at every school.

“The video shares what the team has been doing over the last six months and how much they have gone above and beyond to foster meaningful conversations for youth around the province,” she said.

The video is available online.

“Our ScOut team is energetic, passionate and geared up to make mental health matter,” Mashava added.
