The South African Learners Support Organisation (SALSO) hosted a career guidance workshop for young people who are interested in pursuing higher education on April 6 at Lufhereng.

SALSO is an initiative that supports learners that encounter educational obstacles in schools. The initiative also offers career guidance and an integrated approach to learning and development that integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

According to the founder of SALSO, Itumeleng Segona, the purpose of the workshop was to engage with young people and provide them with one-on-one sessions where they could be assisted with university applications, TVET College applications and upgrading of matric results.

“With this programme I want to see young people pursue careers they are passionate about and will succeed in. I also want to ensure that when they apply, they are aware of the requirements, such as APS and full information about the courses they want to take. I believe this programme will enable them to succeed and have a brighter future,” said Segona.

Lindiwe Mnisi said her attendance at the workshop was motivated by her desire to learn more about the process for upgrading her matric results.

“I was genuinely assisted by today’s career guidance workshop. Attending the programme was the best decision because it was really helpful in terms of both school-related matters and the general challenges that young people face. I wish more young people could participate in initiatives like these,” said Mnisi.
