EFF pays rent for senior citizens in Eldos

The party also recently distributed 67 beds for the elderly people in the Orange Farm after Malema saw their living conditions during a door to door campaign in the area.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Convenor of Gauteng Provincial Election Task Force, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi delivered proof of payments made towards covering rent for the elderly people of Nancefield Retirement Village in Eldorado Park on April 30.

This came after the CIC, Julius Malema made a commitment during the party’s town hall meeting to pay rent for the elderly people at the retirement village village for the next five years as a way of improving their living situation.

Malema indicated that the payment will cover over 40 elderly people for a period of five years.

When delivering proof of payments, Ndlozi spoke about how pension money for elderly people is not supposed to pay for rent and house essentials such as lights, water and medication but it should be used to enjoy the days of one’s elderly hood.

“We are working on making sure that the indigent policy of the City of Johannesburg does not reap elderly people apart. This village should be for elderly people of Eldorado and should be occupied for free,” said Ndlozi.

Paying rent at the retirement village was part of the EFF’s commitment to being for the elderly as well as the disadvantaged.

The move to pay rent at the Nancefield Retirement Village will go a long way in helping the beneficiaries as they will now be able to focus on their health and wellbeing without worrying about rent.

“This is our token of appreciation to elderly people for all the years you have been voting, for all the years you lived under apartheid. We are saying to you that at least for the next five years rest,” said Ndlozi.
