Local families celebrate the start of the new year

Despite 2024’s challenges, the Sekgome Resort’s families’ picnic at Doornkuil Sweet Water offered a refreshing start to 2025, filled with laughter, activities and a renewed sense of hope for the year ahead.

The Sekgome Resort (SK) started the new year in style, hosting the third families’ picnic at Doornkul Sweet Water in Orange Farm. Families from across Gauteng came together to embrace the joy of the new year, revelling in the spirit of unity, laughter and togetherness.

The event was nothing short of a celebration, with attendees from Orange Farm, Eldorado Park and surrounding areas enjoying an exciting lineup of activities for all ages.

The day was filled with energy and fun, from splashing around in the pool to grooving to lively music and performances.

Kids delighted in the jumping castles and family games while the aroma of sizzling braais filled the air, creating the perfect atmosphere for bonding and creating memories.

Yolanda Duze, an SK representative, told the Soweto Urban that the resort has always been committed to promoting family values.

“We started this event three years ago to give families a special space to connect, unwind and usher in a new era together,” she said.

As the sun set over Doornkul Sweet Water, families and friends embraced the beauty of a new year and new adventures.

The families’ picnic has since grown into a tradition that brings people together to celebrate life and love.
