Izibusiso Community Foundation distributes 156 food parcels to Orlando East residents

The Izibusiso Community Foundation has shared 156 food parcels received through the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s food funding programme.

Izibusiso Community Foundation is pleased to continue with its community outreach programmes and soup kitchen in Orlando East.

The team has recently received 156 food parcels from the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s food funding programme, which were donated to underprivileged residents, mostly the unemployed youth.

The founder of the foundation, Mbali Masinga, said that the food parcels included 10kg of mealie meal, 2.5 kg of samp, 2.5kg of flour, 2kg of sugar, two litres of cooking oil and 100 tea bags.

“Initially, the number of residents who registered to receive the food parcels was higher. We had to go back and reduce the number, prioritising unemployed people in the area and child-headed families.

“We were told to reapply again for the second batch of food parcels that we are likely to receive soon,” Masinga said.

She added that residents who received the parcels could not contain their excitement, and as a foundation, they are grateful that they managed to assist local families together with various organisations.

“The number of our beneficiaries increases every Monday when they come for the vegetable collections.

Everyone wants to benefit, but at times, it’s not possible because the number of people exceeds the amount of food we have. We try to prioritise pensioners and children, especially in the soup kitchen.”

Masinga called on local businesses to assist them with funding and food donations that will go towards their beneficiaries.
