SASSA delays August grant payments for beneficiaries under review
SASSA says beneficiaries whose social grants are under review will receive their August payments on August 7 instead of during the normal three-day payment cycle.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has advised beneficiaries whose social grants are currently under review that they will receive their August payments a day later than the usual payment schedule.
According to the South African Government News Agency, beneficiaries affected by the review process should not expect payment during the standard three-day grant payment cycle. Instead, their grants will be paid on Friday, August 7.
The August payment schedule is as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, August 4
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, August 5
- Children’s Grants: Thursday, August 6
- Beneficiaries whose grants are under review: Friday, August 7

SASSA urged beneficiaries not to panic if they do not receive their grants on the normal payment dates, explaining that those identified for review will automatically receive payment on the fourth payment day.
The agency also encouraged affected beneficiaries to visit their nearest SASSA office during August after receiving their grant to complete the review process.
According to SASSA, failing to respond to a grant review request could result in a grant being suspended or lapsing in terms of the Social Assistance Act.
Spokesperson Andile Tshona said beneficiaries selected for review are notified via SMS, making it essential to keep their contact details up to date.
“Beneficiaries selected for review are notified through SMS notifications, making it important for recipients to keep their contact information updated. Beneficiaries are reminded to inform SASSA whenever they change their cellphone number, residential address or other contact details,” said Tshona.
He added that beneficiaries are also required to report changes in their financial circumstances or if they travel outside South Africa, as these factors may affect their eligibility for social assistance.
“The review process helps verify continued eligibility, protects the integrity of the social assistance system, prevents fraud and abuse, and ensures that SASSA maintains an accurate and up-to-date beneficiary database,” Tshona said.
