Tuks win inaugural Diski Challenge

University of Pretoria beat Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties to cling the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

University of Pretoria won the MultiChoice Diski Challenge after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 on penalties in the final played on Saturday at the Nike Football Training Centre in Klipspruit.

Both teams played to a 2-all draw after extra time.

Tuks goals were scored by Botshelo Mfulwane and Dikgang Ngcobo while Rheece Evans and Rodney Ramagalela scored for Sundowns.

Mfulwane opened the scoring in the 13th minute after tapping in a cross from Sifiso Nzimande.

It was his fourth goal of the tournament. Sundowns found the equaliser six minutes later, courtesy of Evans.

It went to halftime with both teams on equal terms.

The second half proved fruitless as both teams failed to find the back of the net and went into extra time.

Sundowns got their second goal when Ramagalela beat an offside trap and put his team in the lead. Tuks equalised a few minutes later after Jason Skippers handled the ball inside the 18-yard box and conceded a penalty which was well taken by Ngcobo, who made it 2-2 and forced the game into penalties.

Mfulwane and Ronald Ketjijere scored the spot kicks for Tuks while Sundowns’ only effective penalty was scored by Lebohang Mokoena.

Earlier on that day, Mpumalanga Black Aces claimed the third spot after beating Supesport United 2-1 at the same venue.
