Slaghuis to host the Human Rights Tattoo Project

A Netherlands based project tilted Human Rights Tattoo (HRT) will be at the Slaghuis Street festival on November 30.

A Netherlands based project tilted Human Rights Tattoo (HRT) will be at the Slaghuis Street festival on November 30.

The art project is aimed to tattoo the complete Declaration of Universal Human Rights with the full 6773 characters on 6773 human beings around the world.

Enzo Slaghuis from Slaghuis said that the aim of the HRT is to let people know about their rights.

“Universal Human Rights mean that the human rights apply to every single living human being, but not everyone knows the 30 rights. It is impossible to respect and protect these rights if they are not known,” he said.

Slaghuis said that the community can join them and get free tattoos.

“To tattoo the complete text HRT needs 6773 individuals to offer a small piece of their skin. “Only the size, place or colour of the tattoo can be determined by the receiver of the tattoo, but not the letter,” he said.

Slaghuis said that the festival and fundraiser will have different kinds of activities.

“There will be a graffiti expo, extreme sports and artists like; Kwesta, Molly, F Easy, Siyashezi, Kay E, Vandal, Gimboss, Ntsiki Mazwai,Deep Soweto, Flipside and Caz the beat boxer amongst a lot of performers,” he said.

Slaghuis said that he is asking the community to donate canned food, clothing and money that will be given to the Soweto Hospice. The festival will start at 2pm at the Slaghuis studios house number 19117, Red Show Street, Zone 4 Diepkloof and the entrance is free.
