Video: Singwane makes it for Russian Bear Rap Competition

All the way from Mpumalanga to Johannesburg or as he likes to call it, Jo’hustle’burg, Given Singwane is, “Not really a rapper who follows swag and trends, I’m just a simple guy who’s making nice music. I write about my life and the things that are happening around me,” he said.
Singwane said that he teaches through music and that he brings hope. He is informally known as MaGibela. He is a South African upcoming singer, rapper, producer and an actor. In his acting career, he made an appearance on Isithembiso as an extra.
Singwane was born and raised in Mpumalanga in a small town called Malelane around Nkomazi (Phakama). He is currently living in the South of Johannesburg in a place called Freedom Park. He’s been doing music since he had completed his matric in 2010.
In 2015, Singwane got noticed, when he released his hit track ‘wen’ungowani ft DarGo B,’ by a friend who passed away in a car accident in September 2017. It was a single from the ‘Far From Home’ mixtape which was released in 2015.
Far From Home is a compilation of ten songs that tells a story of how hard life is when you actually out of your comfort zone or home. He worked with the likes of DarGO B, BekzoBeats, Skia D, Jay ManGo Juice and a former G cover member Ceezy.
He kept on pushing his music throughout the whole of 2016. The Last One is a track that he made and is currently number 73 on KFCSoundBite Top chart 100. This is a song he wrote after losing his soulmate due to cheating and having a daughter with another woman.
“This song gives advice to young people out there to be very loving and supportive of their partners and be grateful for them, while they still can because you will cheat and it will get you into unforgettable and hard situations,” he said.

He is one of the upcoming artists from Nkomazi to be chosen by Russian Bear for the “I Am Next Rap Competition”. Singwane is an artist who uses Swati, Xitsonga and the English language in most of his hooks and choruses.
One interesting thing about him is that he’s a very versatile artist when it comes to making music and he likes working with many upcoming musicians like himself because they all have the same goal, “Which is helping each other to get the breakthrough in the music industry.”
In May 2017, with the help of his brother Sibusiso Shabangu and his friend Thaphelo Mashwama, they started their own Record Company & Talent Management Agency called, ‘Ma Whole Familia SA.’ The label recently signed 6 artists (Lature, Jay ManGo Juice, WiseQ, Turner, Skia D, Thully, and MaGibela).

Singwane hopes that he makes it through so that he can help the many upcoming and hidden talented artists in South Africa, especially in Nkomazi where he comes from.
