Springs teen finalist in Miss Boksburg pageant uses platform to inspire confidence in young girls

Fourteen-year-old Ntokozo Chuma from Struisbult is a Miss Boksburg pageant finalist who says her journey is about more than competing for a crown.

A young pageant contestant from Struisbult is making her mark as a finalist in the Miss Boksburg pageant while using her platform to inspire other young girls.

Ntokozo Chuma (14) hopes to encourage young people to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.

“I am a young, ambitious and determined individual who believes in using every opportunity to grow and inspire others. I advocate for young girls struggling with self-confidence and social anxiety,” Ntokozo said.

She explained that entering the competition was about more than just pageantry.

“I was inspired to enter Miss Boksburg because I wanted to challenge myself and build confidence as a young woman.

“I also saw it as an opportunity to inspire young girls to follow their dreams regardless of the challenges they may face,” she said.

Ntokozo described being selected as a semi-finalist and later a finalist as one of the highlights of her journey.

“I was incredibly excited and grateful. Becoming a semi-finalist was already a huge achievement for me and being selected as a finalist felt like a dream come true. It gave me confidence and motivated me to work even harder throughout the competition,” she said.

Her mother, pageant queen and Mrs Supranational South Africa top 25 finalist Faith Chuma, has played a significant role in supporting her journey.

“My mother has been one of my biggest supporters throughout this journey. Her experience in pageantry has given me valuable guidance, encouragement and advice. She has taught me the importance of confidence and carrying myself with grace.

“Most importantly, she always reminds me to stay true to who I am,” she said.

According to Chuma, one of the most exciting aspects of the competition has been meeting new people and stepping outside her comfort zone.

“It has been exciting to participate in different activities and grow in confidence with every stage of the competition,” she said.

Like many young contestants, she has also faced challenges along the way.

“One of the biggest challenges has been moments of self-doubt but I overcame them by staying focused on my goals, believing in myself and relying on the support of my family and mentors,” she said.

Chuma believes pageantry helps young people develop important life skills.

“Pageantry helps young people develop confidence, leadership, communication skills and respect. It teaches contestants how to represent themselves professionally while encouraging personal growth and community involvement,” she said.

Outside of pageantry, she enjoys singing, dancing and playing netball. She hopes to continue growing as a leader and making a positive impact in her community.

“My goal is to continue learning, growing and representing myself with confidence and grace throughout the competition.

Beyond Miss Boksburg, I hope to use this platform to inspire others, become a positive role model and continue pursuing opportunities that allow me to make a meaningful difference in my community,” she said.

Her personal motto is: “Healing is not linear, but I am here.”
