Young boy arrested

Young boys target school children to rob them of their cellphones.

Four boys, armed with knives, robbed two school girls of their cellphones on September 9.

One of their victims grabbed one of the boys while the other three fled the scene.

Capt Ramphora adds the girls’ mother and a ProSafe vehicle were parked close by in Twelfth Street when they heard the girls’ screams and came to her rescue.

A Werda Primary School girl was walking down Colliery Road when she was approached by these four boys who threatened her with a knife.

“They fled with her cellphone towards Twelfth  Street, where they found a learner from High School Dr Johan Jurgens and robbed her the same way,” says Captain Ramphora Springs police spokesman.

A 17-year-old boy from Tsakane was apprehended and a case of robbery has been opened against him at the Springs Police Station.

The boy was taken to a place of safety in Pretoria.

“We also contacted his grandmother, whom he lives with, and she just said ‘he is a very naughty boy’,” says Cap Ramphora.

The boy was brought back to Springs on September 10 to appear in the Springs Lower Court, but the case has been postponed to September 19.

Capt Ramphora says, “He has now been taken to another place of safety in Johannesburg.”
