Being heart aware
The Netcare N17 Private Hospital held a heart awareness day at the Mall@Carnival on Friday.
September was National Heart Awareness Month and the N17 Hospital had the awareness day at the mall to give people a chance to have their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol tested.
“Prevention is better than cure, so we offered free diagnostic cholesterol, sugar and blood pressure tests to the public,” said Derek Hird hospital manager.
Siphokazi Mando was one of the people who took the opportunity to have these free tests done.
“My blood pressure is a bit high and I need to consult a doctor,” said Siphokazi, who came all the way from Vosloorus to do her shopping at the mall.
Qualified nursing staff assisted the public with all the necessary tests, supplying them with information brochures on several important precautions they can take to prevent heart diseases.
The nursing staff also educated people on the symptoms they need to look out for in order to detect heart disease early on.
