African Reporter to back Yorker

The the horses leave the starting gate at the R600 000 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile (Grade 2) on November 2, the African Reporter will have a stake in the race.

The paper, along with most of the Caxton East Rand papers have backed a horse which is also supported by a number of celebrities in aid of various c harities.

The race will be run over 1 600m at Turffontein.

The Charity Mile is a unique race in which each of the runners also races on behalf of a charity. Each horse is represented by a celebrity and R550 000 is shared between the 16 charities with R100 00 for first. No charity goes home empty-handed and those represented by the last five home each get R20 000.

The AR has been partnered with Yorker, out to of the Woodruff stable, who will race on behalf of Reahile Primary Aftercare Centre in Katlehong.

The centre caters for 78 children from five primary schools – Reahile, Zibuko, Tamaho, Monde and Mokgobeng. The children are fed according to a menu provided by the Department of Health and Social Development.

The horses, charities, celebrities and media partners were paired up at the draw held at Emperor’s Palace on Wednesday.

Elizabeth Jijiwa and Dora Theko, from Reahile Primary Aftercare Centre, were on hand to watch the draw and meet the celbrity who has been pair with them for this race.

That celebrity if Fiona Nay, a model an dpresenter who has been cast on Etv soapie “Rhythm City” for the past three years. She is also a personal trainer and has travelled the world honing her skills and, for a time, training the Prince of Saudi Arabia.
