Bake for change
The Springs Life Parklands Clinic celebrated World Aids Day in style with a unique cake-decorate-a-thon.
Staff at the hospital decided to put back the fun in education with their decorated cakes.
The teams were given the same ingredients to decorate a cake with a message reflecting the theme of World Aids Day.
Highveld Stereo provided smooth jams and also took part in the competition.
The event was aimed at involving the staff and media in raising awareness in a fun way about the HIV/Aids pandemic.
With only a few minutes given to them, the contestants set off to work with the little they had.
After they had decorated the cakes as creatively as possible, the judges set out to find a winner.
Each team was tasked with selecting one representative to explain to the judges what their cake symbolised.
Life Parkland Clinic marketing and doctor liaison officer, Marika Van Der Linde, hailed the day a success.
“It was great to see all the creativity that went into the cake decorations as well as the message behind the decoration,” she said.
The overall winning cake was from the Parklands Theatre group whose message was extremely clear, ‘No condom, no sex.’
A 100-metre banner was rolled out and held by the employees as a symbol of unity in the fight against HIV/Aids.
