One of the co-owners, Ishtiyak Ahmed, was sleeping at the back of the salon when three men woke him up.
“He was asleep at 2.30am, when he heard a noise and then noticed three men in the salon,” says Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman.
The three men gained entry by forcing open the sliding door and the security door.
One man was armed with a handgun and the other with a knife, the third man was unarmed.
Ahmed says one man’s mouth was covered with what looked like a handkerchief, but the other two men’s faces were visible.
Ramphora says they tied the victim’s hands behind his back with an electrical cable.
“I managed to free one hand and untie myself at 4.30am, but I had to wait until the morning before I could phone the police as the robbers had taken my cell phones,” says Ahmed.
At 6.30am, he went to the shop next door, to phone the police.
The robbers took cash, a hairdryer, a plasma TV and two cell phones.
No shots were fired.
