The geese at the duck pond in George Sutter Park were quacking in appreciation of the water pumped into the pond by Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS).
This comes after the community has repeatedly raised their concerns about the water level of the duck pond.
The level is very low with parts of the pond being completely dry.
Sections of the fence give easy access to intruders of any species.
Slow progress is being made in fixing the borehole and pump at the George Sutter Park duck pond and DA ward councillor for the area, Shadow Shabangu, has raised his concern to the metro several times and said the metro needs to take drastic steps to sort out the pump situation at the pond.
It has been an ongoing battle since July last year and the metro is yet to come up with a solution to the problem.
In the meantime, William Ntladi, EMS spokesman, immediately reacted when contacted by an Addie journalist.
He informed the Selection Park Fire Station to connect a fire hose to a hydrant to supply water to the pond.
“The same was done in February,” he says, “but, parks remain the metro’s responsibility and they urgently need to look into this.”
Many a member of the community phoned to complain about the atrocious situation.
The metro was asked to respond in this matter, but nothing has come forth at the time of going to press.
