Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesman of Springs SAPS says five of the 14 men allegedly overpowered the security guards with fire arms at 12.30am, while some of their fellow robbers stole about 600m cables.
The men tied the security guards’ hands behind their backs with cable ties, tied their feet with rope and locked them inside a container.
Besides the cables, the men allegedly also took one of the guards’ fire arms, as well as two two-way radios, two of the security guards’ bullet proof vests and all three guards’ jackets.
