A Springs police vehicle was patrolling the area when they were stopped by a woman informing them of the body.
Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says when the police arrived on the scene in Malatje Street, they found paramedics already at work.
Paramedics declared the girl dead on the scene.
According to witnesses she had been hit on the head with a brick.
Ramphora says her face was full of blood.
The police questioned thebystanders and received relevant information to make an arrest on the scene.
The man was allegedly recently released from prison after serving 12 years.
It is not known why he served time in jail.
The man remains in custody at the Springs police cells and will appear in court soon.
