Smoke meets CRM and EMPD on routine check-up at Windmill Park

CRM and EMPD officers came across two squatters at the old mine-ventilation shaft at Windmill Park on Friday morning.

On a routine check-up officers were greeted with the sight of smoke coming from the shaft.

Ekurhuleni Community Relations Management (CRM) and EMPD arrived at the scene as suspected squatters were reported to live in the building.

On arrival, there were allegedly two of the squatters making a fire in the building.

One of the squatters allegedly ran away but the other was sick and was receiving medical attention on the scene.

Ace Phiri, manager of the CRM, says they are doing these check-ups to enforce the by-laws.

He says it is unsafe for the people to live there and they then advise them to move from the premises.
