Parkland’s new surgical ICU operational
Three new extensions were recently opened at Parkland Clinic.
The newly built 18-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), surgical and medicals wards, are part of the major upgrade and expansion project.
Marika van der Linde, spokesman for the hospital, says these extensions are part of the project to completely overhaul the hospital.
The SICU now has 18 beds and will boast the latest in modern technology and equipment, improving the hospital’s capacity.
She says this will help to deliver world-class healthcare services to their patients.
The surgical ward consists of 26 beds and the medical ward is equipped with 35 beds.
“When the work is finished, the hospital will have grown from its existing 184 beds to a total of 247 beds,” she says.
The second phase of the upgrade will start in November when existing wards will be refurbished and refreshed.
According to Marika more en-suite bathrooms will be added to each ward.
The new facilities will include HD TVs at each bed.
This phase is expected to be completed in August 2015.
Management of the hospital apologises for the discomfort the patients and their families may experience, while the expansion and improvements are being done.
