Leratong shelter needs a new shop

Because this shelter is a place of safety, it is better to have the shop away from the house where the women are living.

Leratong, a shelter for abused women and children, needs new premises for their shop.

Chairman of Leratong Claudette Westley says, because this shelter is place of safety, it is better to have their shop away from the house where the women are living.

She says the women and children who live in this house come to them for care from their abusers and need 24-hour protection.

Claudette explains that the contents of the shop are goods that were donated to them.

The residents of the house first take what they need from the donated items after which the items that are left are sold in the shop.

She says the shop’s profit is used to care for the women and children.

Some of the proceeds were used for last year’s Christmas and New Years food and goodies for the residents.

Mary McCarthy, who is responsible for the shop, says when the shop gets bigger premises it will attract more people, which will in return bring more revenue to the shelter.
