Skoonplaas: a cause of concern

Skoonplaas residents become a problem to neighbouring suburbs.

Residents of Modder East and Eastvale are not impressed with how fast the Skoonplaas Informal Settlement population is growing.

In a statement released by the Ekurhuleni metro it states “the informal settlement is situated on a privately owned land and consists of 169 households.”

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe says the families are to be relocated to a nearby housing project that is currently at its feasibility stage.

A service provider in partnership with Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department has been appointed to prevent further land invasion and to deal with any criminal activities that may occur.

The municipality is currently providing interim basic services such as refuse removal, chemical toilets and communal taps.

He says residents are encouraged to report any problems that may occur to the call centre on 0860 543 000.
