Carla Lemmer will be missed

Last Monday was the saddest day any parent could possibly experience for Charmaine Lemmer.

Carla Lemmer (14) woke up her parents after 5am, in their house in Daggafontein, informing them she didn’t feel well.

Her mother Charmaine says it took a few seconds to register what Carla had said.

She jumped out of bed and found Carla in the passage in excruciating pain.

Charmaine called her fiancé Wynand van der Merwe for help.

While he was with Carla, Charmaine called the paramedics.

“I returned to attend to Carla and gave her mouth to mouth resuscitation,” she says.

Within a matter of 12 minutes Netcare 911 arrived and the paramedics tried to resuscitate her.

Charmaine claims every time they injected adrenalin into the drip, they allegedly found a pulse and heartbeat.

Although the paramedics were tops, she soon realised her child was dead.

The shock was indescribable.

Carla allegedly died of unnatural causes.

She was a quiet yet normal teenager who loved listening and dancing to music.

Wynand says she loved playing hockey and he recently helped her to fix her hockey stick.

Although he wasn’t her biological father, he loved her the same.

He says his daughter Kaylee van der Merwe (2) calls Carla in her sleep.

Charmaine says the only way she can explain where Carla had gone to is by saying ‘Carla is sleeping with Jesus’.

“I know my child is safely in heaven because Jesus was part of her life,” she says.

They are forever grateful to Netcare 911, the chaplan Andy Andrews, Pastor Manie Sequeira, Koos Wright and Riana and Theuns van Zyl for their assistance.

This Grade Eight learner from Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan was a normal bubbly teenager.

The principal of the school Johan Snyman says the school mourns the death of Carla.

“She was a quiet but good learner who enjoyed playing hockey,” he says.

Carla’s friends were shaken by the news and the U/15 hockey team attended the funeral.

The funeral were held yesterday (March 5) at the Anisténi Bediening church in Grootvlei.
