Hijacked truck and two horses recovered

A truck transporting two horses was recovered after being hijacked on Monday (March 2).

The truck and its cargo were on its way to Bloemfontein from Midrand, travelling on the N1, when it was hijacked.

The show jumping horses were in the eight ton truck at the time.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the hijacking was reported via social media and the vehicle was recovered behind Selcourt Towers.

It is believed both horses are valued at approximately R300 000 and the truck at R400 000.

Transport was arranged for the horses to be released at Winstead Stables in Springs on request of the owner from Midrand.

The owners of the stables were not available for comment.

Karien Myburgh from the Springs SPCA was at the scene where the horses were found.

She says the horses have been examined and are in good condition.
