Presidentia to be restored

The Ekurhuleni Metro says Presidentia will be tended to.

This follows an article in the Addie (Presidentia is falling apart) in which the lack of maintenance at the council-owned homes was reported.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says the depletion of funding is a result of the financial year end and should not be misunderstood to mean there is no money to attend to issues of repair and maintenance.

“All the necessary planning is in place and quotations have been received to attend to the issue of roofs and palisade fencing,” he says.

“The metro’s energy department has also been sensitised about the issue of solar geysers.”

Funding will be available this month, which is the new financial year, and during which time contractors will be given instructions to perform work.

He says repairs and maintenance are done at Presidentia as and when required.

“The maintenance is an on-going affair, and has never stopped,” he says.

He adds the roof was supposed to have been replaced during the penultimate financial year, but the contractor at the time did not comply, and his contract was discontinued.

The budget differs for each financial year, but there is a budget in this current financial year to attend to repairs and maintenance.

The metro’s human settlements department recently had its structure approved by council to employ caretakers for complexes.

“Currently, residents who are chairpersons for residents’ committees have voluntarily agreed to assist with no remuneration,” Gadebe concludes.
