Sappi commemorates Mandela Day

In the spirit of Mandela Day, staff from Sappi Enstra spent some time at the Epilepsy SA Centre in Geduld on Thursday.

Staff from the company painted Unit Eight of the facility.

Johannes Masiteng, an intern at Sappi’s head office, assisted Elijah Masondo, spokesman for Sappi Enstra, in organising the project, which is part of

the company’s contribution towards 67 Minutes for Mandela .

The interior walls of the unit, along with the doors and door frames, all received a fresh coat of paint.

“This is a small token of our appreciation for all the good work the centre is doing in the community,” says Johannes.

Sappi employees realise how important their community outreach programme is and painting the unit is their way of showing how much they care.

The relationship with the centre started when Sappi Enstra’s management were looking for an organisation that assists the community within a

10km radius of its premises.

They found it in the SA Epilepsy Centre and the relationship between these two organisations has come a long way.

Centre spokesman Sally-Anne Bentley says Sappi is doing the centre a huge favour and thinks it’s wonderful how Sappi employees get involved.

The centre also has an established and well operated workshop on it’s premises where residents and casual workers pack sample Typek packs for Sappi.

This project has been ongoing for three years.
