Springsites’ views on Mandela Day
Mandela Day is about giving and making a difference without expecting anything in return.
This day has been official since 2009 and for the past six years, people have been giving a helping hand to the less fortunate and disadvantaged across the world.
But will giving 67 minutes once a year make a difference or have a lasting effect on people’s lives?
Springsites raised their opinion of 67 minutes for Mandela Day on the Addie’s Facebook page.
Here are some of their opinions:
- Belinda van de Griendt: “Any positive difference we can make is worth it, no matter how big or how small.”
- Chelle Bellion: “67 minutes is just not enough to do anything valuable. Big corporates all jump on the bandwagon thinking they are making a huge difference, it takes months to make a change and years to make a difference. While the thought behind this is a good one, shouldn’t we all be giving more often to really make that difference?”
- Heila de Swardt: “67 Minutes to be meaningful to society is enough to make an impact especially if it is repeated often.”
- Duma Nzimande: “67 minutes of doing good. Mandela wanted peace.”
- Selcourt Methodist Church: “It’s not enough to make a huge difference but it’s a start. If everyone just gives up that portion of time, who knows what may grow out of that effort. We pray that all Springsites will stand together and make a difference in the life of one person. Be it a neighbour or someone you drive past every day, a small act of kindness goes a long way.”
