The incident took place last Wednesday at around 4.50pm.
Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says two suspects entered the shop pretending to want to buy cellphone batteries.
He says while the shop owner was busy with them, another two suspects armed with firearms entered the shop, and searched the victim and robbed him of R5 000, his cellphone and bakkie keys.
The robbers fled on foot towards the taxi rank.
After the victim shouted for help, his friend, who was at the back of shop, came out and both chased after the suspects.
They managed to catch one of them.
Police are investigating a case of business robbery.
