Robber hides in roof

A 28-year-old robber was surprised when the owner of the house he was robbing unexpectedly arrived home on Monday.

When the owner and two colleagues arrived at his house along Bekker Street, Casseldale, at 8.30am, he found the back door unlocked.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the man claims all the doors were locked when he left the house.

When the owner entered the house, he found a screwdriver, a pair of side cutters and a crowbar on the floor.

He and his colleagues searched the house but couldn’t find anyone.

Ramphora says they then decided to check the roof, and found the suspect hiding in the ceiling.

They ordered him to come down.

Ramphora says the three men claim the robber tried to escape but they managed to grab him.

The owner of the house called Springs police who came to the house and arrested the man.

He has not yet been charged.
