Millions in stolen copper recovered

Almost R2.5-million worth of stolen copper was seized in Welgedacht on Wednesday at 9.30pm.

The discovery was made after members from various EMPD units, including the K9 Unit and Swat Team, and officers from a private security company followed up on information regarding a truck that was robbed of its copper load in June, in KwaZulu-Natal.

The information led them to an address along Third Street.

EMPD officer Louis Els says they found copper sheets at the property linked to the truck robbery.

It is believed one sheet of copper weighs between 30 and 50kg.

No arrests have been made and the case is still under investigation.

Els notified the Springs police of their discovery.
