Trench finally closed

The Ekurhuleni Metro has finally fixed the trench in Fourth Avenue, Springs CBD.

Businessman Mohamed Abed believes metro workers recently attended to a water leak and never closed the trench.

He claims the mess in front of his shop is bad for business.

“The metro obviously fixed the water pipe, as it was fitted with two clamps,” he says.

After reporting the matter to the metro several times, he was given a reference number, but nobody came to solve the problem.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says the reason the workers left the trench open is to give it time to dry.

The hole was filled four days later.

“The contract has been outsourced, therefore the paving will be done once the procurement process is complete,” says Gadebe.
