Donkey Derby auction fun and games

The Rotary Club of Springs held a Donkey Derby on Saturday evening at the Springs Old Boys Club, with all the proceeds going to charity.

The club hosted the auctioning event despite the cold and wet weather conditions.

‘Horses’ were auctioned off to the highest bidder who then got a chance to ‘ride’ the horse to the finish in two races.

The horses each received a number on the ‘race track’ set up on the floor.

Bets were placed on each horse for each race and the dice were rolled.

Two large cubes were used as dice which were then thrown in the air and awaited to land with much anticipation.

One die was used to determine which horse could move and the other revealed how many paces they could move.

The crowd was highly entertained and cheers as well as disappointed moans could be heard throughout the hall.

The Western theme was made complete by a traditional homemade hamburger meal.

The cold did little to deter these warm-hearted people from contributing to charity and enjoying an evening filled with laughs.
