Illegal gambling venues will be shut down

A number of unlicensed casinos have recently popped up in Springs.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, businesses wanting to obtain a slot machine must first obtain a gambling licence from the National Gambling Board.

A local unlicensed casino was recently shut down by police because it did not have a licence.

Ramphora says there will obviously be people who will take the risk to purchase these slot machines and trade illegally.

However, the consequences of this will be far reaching if caught by the police.

It will result in confiscation of the equipment, as well as a court case, a possible fine or jail sentence.

The public should report any of these illegal operations to the police.

“It could also happen that the premises could be used for illegal drug dealing,” Ramphora adds.
