Children’s home has Christmas party
Donations made by a foundation made it possible for Chance Children's Home to have a Christmas party last Saturday.
Music for the Children Foundation donated jumping castles, popcorn, music and more for the Christmas Party which kicked off at 2pm on Saturday.
Lienkie Terblanche (27), team mentor and administrator at the Chance Children’s Home says, “The children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the party”.
The eight hostels on the premises house the 64 children currently registered at the home.
Lienkie, who started as a volunteer at Chance eight years ago, says,”The children were so excited to see all the activities made available for them”.
“Fun and food was the order of the day and this brought immense joy to both children and staff,” she adds.
For Christmas Day the staff have planned a dinner in the dining hall and will have the children decorate the hall with home made decorations.
The home relies on food and transport donations for the children while salaries for the staff are paid from fund-raising.
Established in 1996, the Chance home has permanent house mothers who work in shifts caring for the children.
A New Year’s Day party is also being planned with a braai and jumping castles.
“We work here because we want to help the children and we love them all,”says Lienkie.
