Potholes are becoming a bigger problem

Willem Greyvenstein (76), a local resident, says the potholes in Hills Road, Selection Park are caused by a leaking pipe.

“The holes just keep getting bigger due to the continuous flow of water from a leaking pipe,” says Willem.

Willem travels on Hills Road almost every second day to visit a family member and the potholes have been getting worse since November he says.

“I’m not sure if the water is clean drinking water or dirty sewage water,” he adds.

Another resident, Christine Denner (50), says her mother-in-law who lives on the same property has reported the problem numerous times, January 11 being the last time the problem was reported.

“Ekurhuleni Metro has come four times in an attempt to fix the problem but it never really gets done,” claims Christine.

Christine who has lived on Hills Road for many years adds that with trucks using the road continuously the road continues to be damaged.

“At one stage metro took a whole month to respond to complaints about the potholes,” alleges Christine.

Willem feels that if a motorist is not aware of the holes in the road, it could be dangerous.

Addie is still awaiting comment from the metro regarding the potholes and the leaking pipe.
