‘Hooked’ contractor causes power outage in Springs

Several residents sent in complaints of a power outage in a number of areas including Selection Park, Selcourt and Daggafontein last week.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metro, says the electricity problem was sorted out and the power reconnected.

He says the outage was due to an electrical cable which was damaged by a contractor.

The contractor apparently hooked one of the cables accidentally, causing power outages in some suburbs.

“Although power had been restored, the cable still had to be repaired on Friday and did not affect residents,” Gadebe says.

The cable was damaged in Ramona Road, Selcourt.

“If residents experience any other power outages, we urge them to contact the metro’s call centre on 086 054 3000 to report the problem,” Gadebe concludes.
