Household experiences power surges

Angela and her husband eventually went to the metro to voice their concerns about the electricity problem.

Angela Grant (48), a Selection Park resident, experienced power surges throughout her house for almost three weeks after the Ekurhuleni Metro reportedly worked on a street pole outside her house.

Angela, who says for three weeks her microwave, fridge, oven and other electrical items were not working correctly, struggled to have the problem rectified.

The family initially thought that the cause of the problem with their electrical goods was due to water damage after a big storm but soon realised that it was a problem with the street pole outside their house.

Angela had posted a message to the metro and on other sites requesting urgent assistance as she feared for the safety of her family.

“It was not safe for my family and I to be living with the power surges and I feared someone would be electrocuted in the house,” says Angela.

Angela and her husband eventually went to the metro to voice their concerns about the electricity problem and after numerous attempts to get the problem sorted, the metro finally arrived on Thursday to fix the power.

“They dug a trench from the street pole right through into my yard in an attempt to rectify the problem,” says Angela.

She and her family are happy that the power has been restored to the correct voltage and hopes the metro fixed the problem permanently.

All her electrical appliances are working again and for that Angela is grateful.

The metro is yet to respond on what exactly caused the power surges the Grant household experienced.
