Walk across the province

A group of men intend to carry a cross while walking from Gauteng to the Mighty Men Conference (MMC) in Polokwane, Limpopo between March 4 and 13.

The planned seven day route starts on March 4 in Heidelberg and proceeds through Nigel to enter Springs at about 11am, walking in Nigel Road, Selcourt turning into Vlakfontein Road towards Brakpan and then to Benoni.

Gert van Rensburg, from Kruis Krygers Gauteng, says they would like to give people the opportunity to write down their prayer requests and stick these to the cross.

These prayer requests will be prayed for at the MMC which will be held from March 11 to 13.

The men will be leaving Benoni the following day and walking to Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Irene and Centurion before continuing on to finish the day’s walk.

On March 6 they will walk from Pretoria to Pienaarsrivier and on day four, from Pienaarsrivier to Bela-Bela (Warmbaths).

Gert says the walk will continue on day five from Bela-Bela through Modimolle (Nylstroom) to Mookgopong (Naboomspruit), day six will see them walking to Mokopane (Potgietersrus).

On day seven, the last stretch of the journey, they will leave Mokopane to journey to Polokwane where the MMC is held.

They intend to spend 12 hours on the road each day, from 6am to about 6pm, depending on the route.

“We would also like people to, where possible, bring small gifts which will be given to people in need,” says Gert
