Voting stations were set up and ready to open on Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 5pm.
Voter agents from various political parties were present to monitor the situation at the voting stations.
For Aishwarya Ganesh (18), registration was a wonderful experience.
“I registered for the first time and am proud to be able to vote for the first time,” she said.
When she arrived at the Bakerton community hall to register, she took her new smart ID card with her.
She says the IEC officials were very friendly and helpful.
Ganesh received a proof of registration form that she needs to keep until she votes.
“IEC official Ruth Zulu was very helpful,” said Phillip Sokhuphe.
This 61-year-old Bakerton resident went to the Bakerton registration station to check his registration.
Zulu checked if his ID number appeared on their registration list and ticked his name off.
“The officials have been very helpful and they are friendly,” he said.
Registration results were not available at the time of going to print.
