WARNING: Protest action in Gugulethu Everest Informal Settlement
Welgedacht and Enstra roads have been closed to motorists by the EMPD today (Friday), due to a community protest.
Residents of Gugulethu and Everest informal settlements are burning tyres in both streets.
According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, the EMPD Public Order Policing is currently at the scene to monitor the situation.
He comments that the protest is due to an electricity dispute between the residents and council.
“We urge the community to avoid these two roads and rather take a detour,” says Ramphora.
