Chamber honours company for 50 years

Mary Reynolds was formally elected as the new 2016/2017 president of the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EGCCI) at their 99th AGM held at Riverside Country Estate in Grootvaly on Thursday.

Suzanne Finney has been the acting EGCCI president since August 2015 when previous president, Gavin Roberts, left the chamber.

She gave an overview of the chamber’s activities during the year before announcing the committee members who will serve for the next year.

They are Richard Kumalo, Pravin Naidoo, Maans Swart, Jo Fourie, Andries Joubert, Bob Gillies, Barbara-Ann Day and Bobby Mahlori.

Mike du Toit was elected as the vice president of the chamber.

The speaker of the evening was Wayne Duvenage, chairman of the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa), formerly known as Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance.

The name was officially changed in February.

He spoke about the purpose of their organisation and mentioned that they have now evolved into undoing tax abuse.

The EGCCI honoured the company Mackays Diesel and Motor Engineering with a 50 year membership award.

This gold award was made for the company’s continued membership of the chamber and was handed to Jenny Jonker.

A number of businesses also received 20 year service awards at the dinner.

“Congratulations to all the long service award companies and thank you for your continued support of the EGCCI,” says Suzanne.
