Eunice Mokhothu from Eighth Street, CBD said on Tuesday she had reported the water leak, on the side walk across the road from her house, to the Ekurhuleni Metro Call Centre on Friday.
“The call centre operator referred me to a metro contractor and didn’t give me a reference number,” she says.
She claims the metro contractors were eager to assist and arrived to seal off the leak on Friday morning, leaving them without any water.
Eunice claims they promised to come back on Saturday to fix the leak, however, the never returned the next day.
Eunice claims a few people witnessed a man with pliers allegedly breaking the seal on Saturday morning and says water has been streaming down the street since then.
She phoned the contractors directly on Saturday to enquire if they were still going to fix the leak, but claims they said they don’t work over long weekends.
“A lot of water has been wasted since the water meter started leaking on Friday and residents in Eighth Street are without water,” says Eunice.
She did, however, report the the matter to the metro call centre again on Tuesday morning and is waiting for them to repair the leak.
The Addie has sent questions to the metro regarding the leak, but is still waiting for comment.
