The Metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe, says that the delay in refuse removal services is caused by a backlog, due to mechanical failure of the specialised vehicles used for the services.
The vehicles are said to service 23 000 service points per week.
“We are currently awaiting the delivery of new vehicles expected to come before the end of June,” says Gadebe, “that will ensure better service delivery.”
Going forward, the Metro is investigating methods of communicating service delivery delays to residents.
