“The conditions are still the same as they were a month ago,” says Kobus, “and worse is, none of the guys from the Ekurhuleni Metro have even come on site to see that services are being delivered.”
Kobus, who is employed by one of the businesses on Oppenheimer Circle in Selection Park, says that he and the business he works for still have to take responsibility for ensuring that the litter outside is cleared away.
“You should see how this place looks on a Monday morning after the weekend,” he says. “It’s a mess that we ultimately have to pick up, because our customers are important to us.”
“People litter and we have to pick it up, because the metro certainly won’t do it.”
The two complainants also indicate that the refuse situated outside the premises has not been collected in almost over a week, which is another contributor to litter, because of the people who scratch in the refuse bags and bins and leave the area dirty.
“The number and size of the potholes here is ridiculous,” says Emile.
“Some of our customers do not even park here, for fear that their cars will be damaged.”
“This is not what we expect from an area where we pay for such services to be rendered.”
The biggest concern for these two locals is that the metro has failed to respond with concern or urgency to the grievances that have been raised.
The locals say that they have lost hope and faith in the metro to deliver to its people.
“Why do we even pay taxes if the metro does not care?”
Questions have been sent to the metro for feedback.
