Children at the Far East Rand Hospital received gifts and good wishes from members of the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) last Thursday.
NTA president Francis Masitsa and a few members visited the children’s ward last week where they talked to the patients and handed out gifts.
They also spent time finding out about the care and treatment available in the hospital for young patients.
Nine-year-old patient Thando Mbatha, who celebrated his birthday on Youth Day, received a T-shirt and a gift bag containing a cold drink, yogurt, chips and a packet of sweets from the delegation.
NTA ambassador Thembesile Mnguni, a Mrs SA finalist in 2014, was one of the members who handed out the presents.
She has been visiting the children’s ward for quite some time and says her first visit was quite an emotional experience.
“The smiles on the children’s faces warm everyone’s hearts.
“The whole experience was so rewarding and it was nice to meet all the lovely children and babies in the ward.”
Thembesile is the face of the NTA who visits hospitals, old age homes and charity organisations to establish the needs as well as to show compassion.
Sonti Malange, area manager of the hospital’s paediatric department, accompanied the visitors and informed them about the care and treatment at the children’s ward, Lonmin House as well as the Kangaroo mother care facility.
She also mentioned their dire need of a washing machine for the Kangaroo facility which was welcomed by the NTA delegation.
Their president took on the challenge and promised to deliver a washing machine on Friday.
Francis says they celebrate Youth Day with youth, and says, “Let’s not forget the children who are in hospital.”
“As the NTA president I am delighted to be part of the delegation who came to hand out gifts and a TV set to the children and nursing staff.
“It has been a wonderful experience for all of us and we wish to congratulate the nursing staff on a job well done,” says Francis.
