Mrs Africa a platform for Springsite
Born and bred Springsite Annette Dempsey (32) has been selected as one of the 40 Mrs Africa 2016 pageant finalists.
Annette will be taking part in the Ms Africa section of the pageant as she is unmarried.
Annette, who has been taking part in pageants since the age of four, has won well over 100 titles.
“My biggest passion is working with young girls and preparing them for pageants.”
Annette says her motto is ‘Do what you love and love what you do’ which is what she attributes her love for pageants and helping young girls to.
“One of the reasons I entered the pageant is because of the change I believe one person can make in the community, especially for young girls,” she says.
“The charity we are involved with is Dignity Dream which provides re-usable sanitary towels for young girls in Africa.”
“We will be raising funds for this project so that more young girls are able to attend school regardless of their menstrual cycles.”
Annette says being involved in such a project has changed her life and made her aware of things people oftentimes take for granted.
“What we take for granted means the world or, in Dignity Dream’s case, it means one girl’s dignity,” she adds.
“With dignity comes self-confidence and self-esteem, which means you can do bigger things if you believe in yourself.”
“Dignity Dreams gives us the chance to do that.”
Annette says should she win the Ms Africa title, she would like to do a lot for young girls in Africa.
“I believe by empowering one girl you will empower our future mothers, teachers, doctors and lawyers,” she adds.
Annette attributes her drive and motivation to her passion and love for people.
“Making a difference, even if it is in a small way, is what I would like to do to become the change in Africa and the world,” she says.
